National Road Relays
Ronan Kearns on Leg 2 of the Senior Men's race.
There were two firsts for Crusaders at the National Road Relays in Raheny on Sunday 11th April. The club had a team entered in the Senior Women's race for the first time. Valerie Fenton, Tressan McCambridge and Mary Coghlan did the club proud by stepping up to the plate at an event that is fiercely competitive. Hopefully this will establish the event as a fixture on the calendar for our women athletes.
Shortly afterwards, our Senior Men's team went one better than last year by securing the club's first ever silver medal at the event. Garrett Coughlan took the opening leg and handed over to Ronan Kearns in 3rd place. Ronan was tasked with holding position as best he could over the fast 1-lap leg. The long 3-lap leg was run by Alan O'Brien who reeled in several competitors and handed over to Olympian Thomas Chamney in 2nd place. Thomas ran the fastest fourth leg of the day but Raheny's Mick Clohisey had too much of a head start for the gold medal to be a realistic possibility. All told, it was another milestone for the club.
