The BHAA , the Guards and Crusaders
The BHAA (Business Houses Athletic Association)are one of the best organisers of races in Ireland. Founded in 1979 by athletes who wanted to run for their companies and what a success it is. It is a completely voluntary organisation and host very athlete friendly races including Cross country, road and track races. Each few weeks a different company with the BHAA family takes it upon themselves to organise one of the BHAA races. Check their calendar on their site www.bhaa.ie.
Crusaders encourage all our runners to take part in the BHAA races. Last Saturday the Garda held their 20th Anniversary BHAA cross country race in the Phoenix Park and I am delighted to report a total of 18 athletes from Crusaders took part in a huge field of 380 runners.
What was very pleasing was that many of the new guys who have joined the club recently and are showing great promise turned up (some in newly purchased spikes) and placed very well. But where were our girls ??? Only Dee Ni Chearbhaill raced and put in a great performance in the men’s race.
First home was Stephen Moore in 17th with new boys Jordi Smilde and Mounir Bouzaiaine in 22nd and 33rd place.
The other Crusaders were Ciaran Diviney 34th, James Murphy 38th, Liam Morris 47th, Karl Fitzmaurice 53rd, Shane Connolly 56th, Michael O’Connor 65th, Torben Dahl 67th, Karl Walsh 104th, James Cottle 126th, Michael Deasey 129th, Eamon McWalter 133rd, Robbie Moore 149th, Neil McGeorge 160th, Yours Truly 174th and Dee in 214th
Next BHAA outing is Sat 3rd March in AIB/NUI Maynooth College. www.bhaa.ie
