Ladies show the way at Leinster Novice

Crusaders ladies - Leinster Novice champions 2011!

Crusaders ladies - Leinster Novice champions 2011!

The scene was set for a perfect day of cross-country on the challenging and scenic course at Belvedere House in Mullingar for the Leinster Novice cross-country yesterday. Ahead of our marathon participants, seven ladies and four men represented the club. The ladies race had been lengthened to four kilometres in error but this proved no hindrance to our girls: Catherine Thornton secured her first cross-country medal by taking an emphatic bronze medal after having sat on the two leaders early on. Aoife Joyce followed strongly moving from 11th to 4th on the last lap and with two more women in the top-20 and the whole squad packing well, the team could call themselves Leinster Novice champions 2011! Catherine made it three medals when she also provided the points as the second scorer for the victorious Dublin team.

Jason Kehoe followed in Catherine’s footsteps in the men’s 6k race afterwards finishing first of our team in 24th overall being outsprinted at the death by fellow Dublin runner Shane O’Neill. They combined with two Donore runners to take the county team gold medal. Amidou Dembele continued his strong form of late finishing 37th with Richie Healy and brother Johnny our two others scorers.
