Killian Barry set new National Junior Record in the Hammer

At the Dublin athletics board graded meeting on Wednesday 18th June in Santry, Killian Barry set a national junior record in the hammer.  His throw of 66.43m was over a meter further than the previous record held by Padraig White (UCD).  The record looked like it would be under treat this season given his opening competition in Scotland on the 9th April where he got within 34cm of the old record when he threw 65.07m in the Bank of Scotland Hammer Grand Prix in Grangemounth.  He will now set his sights on adding the Irish Schools record which has stood since 1984, before embarking on this collegiate career in the United States at Texas Tech.

After a gap of three days Crusaders have returned to the top of the 400m national rankings, this time courtesy of Brain Murphy in a time of 47.75.  In less than favourable wind conditions this is his fastest opening to a season, a sign faster times are still to come from him.  In one of the strongest events in Ireland at the moment, three Crusaders athletes are in the top five rankings for the year.

Ray Hynes stepping down to his more favoured distance, the mile, was out leaned on the line after leading the race for most of the distance.  Ruairi O’Briain finished second in the polevault in 4.30m, the same height as the winner.  Garret Dunne in his first race for Crusaders won the B 400m in 52.23.
