In a year where three Irish athletes have qualified in the hammer for the European juniors, the first event of the national Junior/U23 national championships promised to be one of the events of the day and it didn’t disappoint.  After a slow start he threw 63.94m in the third round to moving into 2nd and then threw 66.63m in 4th round to move into the lead momentarily before Dempsey Mc Guigan of Finn Valley threw 66.71m to regain the lead.  In the 5th round Killian began to find his form throwing a marginal foul, measure at 69.71m, before taking the lead in his last throw with a national record to take the national championships with a throw of 68.38.  Ciaran Donnelly made it a Crusaders double taking the under 23 hammer and added win in the 36lb throw for good measure.

Steven Colvert rounding into good form in the build up to the European U23 championships won the 200m in 20.77.  He had run a 20.72 in the heats, if it was not for a following wind it would have placed him 4th on the Irish all time list (it does place him 4th on the wind aided list
