Jason Kehoe wins Donard, Kevin O’Riordan takes on Wicklow Round

The final race of the Irish Championship had been integrated into the Slieve Donard-Commedagh race run by the Northern Irish Mountain Running Association. This created the rather interesting situation that Jason Kehoe finished both fourth and first in the same race. He finished fourth in the overall classification but first among the runners who have competed in the Irish Championship. The result confirmed his second place in the championship, one point adrift of Rathfarnham’s Brian Furey. A few weeks earlier he had missed out on qualifications to the World Championships after an 11th place finish in the trial.
Niamh O’Ceallaigh were among the other Crusaders finishing the race which is one of the country’s hardest ascents with 1000m of climbing over two peaks and a distance of 12km. On the navigational front our resident orienteer Kevin O’Riordan finished a fine third in the last of the three Navigational Challenges run by IMRA beating such notaries as GaelForce West winner Peter O’Farrell.
