Jason Kehoe second in Irish Championship
Jason Kehoe, KoM 2011
Jason Kehoe has had an enthralling rivalry with Rathfarnham’s Brian Furey in the battles over Ireland’s highest peaks and roughest mountain-side for the title of IMRA Irish Champion this season. While he managed to draw the longest straw in the uphill competition, King of the Mountains, and had a memorable win at Carrauntoohil, his hopes for the Irish Championships were ended when he finished second to Brian on the penultimate race at Galtymore this weekend.
The racing was close for the majority of the race and Brian Furey only pulled decisively away on the final plateau on Cuis after which the contestants seemed to settle into place for the run-in. Two other Crusaders also competed on the with Kevin O’Riordan 9th and Ken Cowley 31st on the 13km traverse with it’s 1340m ascent. Most mountain runners consider this route the toughest race currently on the fixture list.
