René at a sunnier Star of the Seas 2007

The Crusaders men opened their cross-country season at the 23rd annual Star of the Seas Cross-Country Festival in Co. Meath this sunday. The course consists of four 1500m laps with two long extended climbs. Wet and windy conditions and uneven grass ensured that both experienced XC runners René Borg and Jason Kehoe and debutante Amidou Dembele got plenty of practice in ahead of next week’s faster Dublin Novice course. The team equited themselves well taking third place ahead of Raheny Shamrocks. The two teams were tied on points but when René arrived in 38th and Raheny’s third scorer in 58th, we sealed the win on the “first across the line” tie-breaker. Host club Star of the Seas took runners-up ahead of Mullingar Harriers who dominated in all events.

Jason Kehoe continued his strong form from the summer mountain running to finish first Crusader on the day in twelfth followed by Amidou Dembele in a strong time of 21:57 for the course which was slightly longer than six kilometres. Overall a positive start to the season and a good team effort on the day.
