A weekend of many National Golds and Silvers
Conor Mc Cullough winning the Hammer
Congratulations to all the Crusaders who took part in the Woodie’s DIY Track & Field Championships of Ireland. In what was a weekend full of Golds and many Silvers, starting off with an excellent display of hammer throwing with the young talent of Conor McCullough winning the Hammer with a pb throw of 72.67m and then he went on to win Silver in the Discus with a throw of 48.68m. Another outstanding top class performance was when Brian Murphy won the 400m and his first senior title in a time of 46.68. In the 110m hurdles Ian McDonald got a Silver with a time of 14.28 and one young talent and one to watch out for in the future along with the young Conor McCullough and who is making get strides in the Irish sprinting scene is Steven Colvert who finished second in both the 100m (10.75) and 200m (20.84) losing out to Jason Smyth and Paul Hession respectively.
In the Polo Vault Rory O’Briain also took Silver clearing a height of 4.70m and Sam Gaine won Silver in the junior men’s 35lb height with a throw of 3.60m.
There were also great performances for the women’s and bodes well for the future with Deirdre Hogan in the 800m with a time of 2.21.62. Philippa Conway with a Discus throw of 35.48m finishing just out of the medals in fourth and Margaret O’hGogartaigh performed well in the Hammer.
