This week, we’ll take a look at a few athletes who have picked up some big deals and what tours they have planned in the next two months…
Class of 2023, DB Johnathan Hall, Katy HS
Katy has always had some of the best talent in the state of Texas, but also in the country. Next on this list is 2023 Safety Johnathan Hall.
Hall is a 6’1,200lb defensive back who can play in the box, dropping down delivering big shots from the safe position while keeping his own cover. The Katy DB staged a major Junior campaign to collect offers from Arizona, Baylor, Duke, Houston, Purdue, San Diego State, SMU, TCU, Texas Tech, Tulsa, UTSA and Vanderbilt.
I asked Hall how he felt when he got that first offer from Texas Tech and he said it was an amazing feeling to know that all his hard work had paid off adding that it was an “inexplicable feeling”. The Katy DB has unofficial tours scheduled at Duke, Vanderbilt, Arizona and TCU at this time with more to come.
While chatting with Hall, I asked him which coaches he had the best connection with so far in the recruiting process and he said the best connection he had so far was with Coach Gonzales from TCU who is the safety coach.
Johnathan Hall is set for a big senior season as the Katy Tigers look to do a revenge tour next fall and secure another ring. Hall will be a big part of their success next fall.
Class of 2023, OF Braylan Shelby, Friendswood HS
Friendswood football had a pretty decent season last year, struggling out of the district but flipping the switch when district play came to finish the season as district champions. A big part of the Mustangs success has been defensive end Braylan Shelby.
Braylan Shelby is a long and fast 6’5 235 lb defensive end who had 8 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, 1 interception and 77 tackles during his junior campaign. Shelby has received offers from Arizona State, Baylor, Boston College, Colorado, Duke, Florida State, Houston, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana Monroe, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Purdue, Rice, SMU, TCU, Tennessee, Texas, Tulane, USC, Utah and Vanderbilt.
Shelby spoke about the feeling he had upon receiving that first offer from Oklahoma State saying that “it was so unreal, I had dreamed of going to play college football and seeing my dream come true. before me was so surreal”. The Junior DE plans to visit USC in March and other schools after that.
The Friendswood defensive end also told me about the coaches he’s made the best connection with. Shelby said the coaches he’s had the best relationship with so far are Coach Heupel of Tennessee, Coach Sark of Texas, Coach Aranda of Baylor and Coach Riley of USC.
Braylan Shelby is a top rusher who is set for a big senior year at Friendswood and will be a name to watch for next fall.
Class of 2024, RB Frankie Arthur, Oak Ridge HS
Oak Ridge High School has recently had success sending athletes to the next level, including RB Alton McCaskill, who is at the University of Houston. The next guy is Sophomore running back Frankie Arthur.
Arthur, who is tied to one of the best RBs to play the game in Adrian Peterson, had a strong sophomore season with 658 yards and 6 touchdowns on 90 carries. The young Oak Ridge RB has been offered by Texas Tech, SMU and UTSA so far with many more to come.
Speaking with the young full-back from the Red Raiders’ first offer, he said the feeling was amazing and he loved the love they were giving him. Arthur plans to make some visits to UTSA and Texas Tech this summer and also plans to go to junior events.
I also got to speak with Arthur about what he learned from his parent Adrian Peterson saying he “learned to never give up when the going gets tough and I don’t just apply that on the football pitch but in my everyday life”.
Frankie Arthur is due for a great junior season and will most likely be one of the best fullbacks in the country once all is said and done. Keep an eye out for this young star!
