On Sat 8th May, at Irishtown Stadium 5.00 - 7.00 pm, Crusaders are introducing the Grand Prix concept for Track and Field meets to Ireland. We have approached coaches and athletes and asked them to put together top class fields for various competitions. In addition we are partnering with the Irish Milers Club so that they can put on their usual high calibre races and deliver a night of athletics to remember. We aim to pack this two hours with Track and Field events that will leave you wanting more. Here are the events.

Pole Vault - Ruairi O'Brein, Crusaders, has gathered Ireland's top pole vaulters for this exciting and entertaining event.

Discus and Shot - We will try to revitalise this ancient art of throwing which reaches back to the time of the Ancient Greeks. We have asked Alish O'Brien, National Throws coach and Olympian Phil Conway, Crusader legend, to put together a great field. Marcus Pons, a young athlete from Wexford will attempt to gain the European Youth qualifying mark.

400m Hurdles - Jeremy Lyons coach/athlete from Clonliffe Harriers has put together a field of 7 of Ireland's top hurdlers for a race that is always filled with drama.

Sprints - UCD Sprints coach and Crusader John Coghlan, is putting together a field for the 100m, 200m and 400m filled with the top sprinting talent in Ireland.

Track races - To top things off The Irish Milers Club are putting on 800m, 1500m and 3,000m which will attract the cream of Irish track talent. Fast paced and always exciting, their series of races are a must for both athlete and spectator. Check their website for entry and race details www.irishmilerscub.com.

Commentator - We've got the top athletes and we have also recruited top race commentator, Susan Walsh. A regular IMC and BHAA commentator renown for her exciting, knowledgeably and quick witted commentary she is sure to bring atmosphere to this meet.

Prizes - Top male performer of the night receives the GV Ryan trophy and top Female performer receives the Louis Vandereis Trophy which are in honour of Crusader’s legendary coaches.
