Galion Schools launches an online academy for the new school year
GALION – Galion City Schools is taking a proactive approach to expand online learning opportunities for its students for the 2020-2021 school year.
The district will launch the Galion Online Academy with the start of the new school year. This option will be available to all students in Galion, Kindergarten to Grade 12, and expands the district’s efforts to provide individualized educational options for its students.
“We are expanding online learning options for students to allow families some flexibility in how their students receive education,” said New Superintendent Jennifer Allerding. “We are delighted to offer this opportunity to all of our students, regardless of how we start the 2020-2021 school year.”
According to data from the Education Week Research Center, more than 50% of students in online charter schools in Ohio are not currently graduating.
âWe are proud of the graduation rate of over 94% of our Galleon students,â Allerding said. âOur staff from our 5-star preschool through high school program work hard every day to ensure our students have the skills to graduate. “
Students who choose to enroll in Galion Online Academy will have the opportunity to work with a district-employed programming coordinator and choose from a wide variety of elective courses. All Galleon Online Academy students will also receive an iPad to use to complete their courses.
âThose students enrolled in our online academy will be able to work with district school counselors and social workers,â Allerding said. âThey will also have the opportunity to participate in our school meals program during the school year, if the need for healthy and nutritious meals arises. “
The program will be supervised by two teachers from Galion, one teacher working exclusively with primary students and the other teacher working with secondary students. Teachers will be announced before the start of the school year.
More information about the Galion Online Academy, including registration details for students and families, will be available no later than July 15.
