Ronnie Delaney's Gold Medal Anniversary (Update)

As Melbourne is 10 hours ahead of Ireland (and to better facilitate club training hours) Crusaders will mark actually mark this grand occasion on Thursday this week (not Friday). I am also sure that a glass or two may be raised to Ronnie's achievement on Saturday at the Crusaders Christmas party. Also on Friday RTE2 will be airing a special half hour programme on the anniversary (with footage of the entire race we are told) at 1930 (another reason not to be in Irishtown on Friday!!).

Ronnie's Gold Medal Anniversary

On December 1st 1956, Crusader, Ronnie Delaney became an Olympic Champion when he won the 1500m final in Melbourne, Australia. The 50th anniversary of this historic event, the only Irish Track & Field Gold medal since Bob Tisdall, occurs this Friday. Ronnie often used to train on the old grass track in Irishtown, now the site of Crusaders AC tartan track and the Irishtown leisure facility which recieved a white flag award this year. In honour of this anniversary there will be a special mile run event on the track this Friday at 7pm. ...

Training

Good news on training as we are noticing increased numbers on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

As everybody knows, Irishtown is a great facility and offers extensive training facilities. It is easily accesible from anywhere in Dublin with its central location.

New members are always welcome.

National Novice Cross Country

The National Novice Championships are being held on the 9th of December at Athlone IT.

We are trying to put teams together for this race so please contact Simon for anyone interested.

The distance for men is 6k and the course will more than likely be flat and fast.

Races start at 12.00.

Hill Training-Options

There is also an option of a hill session on Saturdays in Irishtown Nature Reserve.

This session is 200m/300m hills done at speed with a jog back recovery.

The surface is good underfoot and is within a 10 min run from the club house.
