UCD Track

The subject of much gossip and speculation over the years the future of UCD track seems finally to have been decided & made public. UCD have recently awarded the contract for its Gateway Project to Ingenhoven Architects. In their design for the campus upgrade (best view is on their website here) there is no sign of the old tartan ring. Some say the college is planning a new track (6 lanes is the popular view) on the other side of the campus closer to the sports centre.

Just a note about the UCD track; it will be moved but it should be safe! The Gateway project contains a number of phases (0-5 years, 5-10 years and beyond)which suggest a time frame of activity on the UCD Campus.

According to the Scheme, the 0-5 years slot includes the construction of a new track near the sports centre (Not the pitch beside the astroturf pitches but the next area down towards the architecture school). The old Phillips building is currently being refurbished to house the new high performance centre as I understand it.

The next slot, 5-10 years is when it is planned to remove the existing running track and complete that area of the Gateway project.

The Gateway plan is available on the ucd website and provides plans of the area where the track will be, it includes the track also. It may take some digging but it's in there!
